MONTHLY TOWN BOARD MEETING
AUGUST 11, 2010

Being properly noticed, the monthly meeting of the Clam Falls town board was called to order by Supervisor Robert Carlson. All board members were present, along with the clerk, treasurer, and several members of the community.

Minutes of the July meeting were read. Brad Olson motioned to approve; second Robert Carlson; carried.

The treasurer report was given. There is $15,707.45 in the checking account; $145,942.86 in the savings account; and $97,004.45 in the real estate tax account for total available funds of $258,654.76. Checks are written through #8924. Brad Olson motioned to approve the report; second Robert Carlson; carried.

There has been no additional progress on the Godfrey Lake Dam emergency action plan. A letter was received from the DNR regarding inspection of the dam. An inspection is now required every two years by an engineer to be hired by the township at our expense, with a report on the inspection to be sent to the DNR. The board will investigate who may be qualified to perform this inspection.

The comprehensive land use committee met with the Moody and Noreen regarding their requests for variance/special exception.

Lee Cartier reported that the paperwork for bridge aid has been filed with the county.

No revision to the employee handbook at this point.

Lee Cartier reported that the pulverizing is done and gravel has been hauled. A contract for paving was signed with Monarch for 78th Street. Brad Olson motioned that Clam Falls Drive be striped at a cost of $2,250; second Robert Carlson; carried. Lee has been working on repair of washouts that resulted from the recent rain, and on removal of trees from the road. Contact of contractors determined that ditch work could be done at a rate of $100 per hour. There was discussion of the bridge east of 85th St.; no action was taken. There was also discussion regarding the beaver dam that affects both West Sweden and Clam Falls. If not removed, the beaver dam will result in damage to the road. Greg Anderson will contact the West Sweden town chairman.

Greg Anderson motioned that the board have no objection the request by Moody for a travel trailer park; second Brad Olson; carried. Richard Doffing was present regarding sheds on his property that zoning has flagged. Brad Olson motioned to delay action pending further information; second Greg Anderson; carried. Greg Anderson motioned that the board remain neutral on the Noreen special exception issue and that the board has no objection to Polk County zoning going forward with their decision; second Brad Olson; carried. The clerk is to report the decisions to zoning and email the Moodys.

The clerk reported that Lee Gohlike has contacted her regarding starting a distillery at Seven Pines. He has been instructed to forward information to her for presentation to the board. No information has been received to date; thus, no action was taken.

Bills were paid and correspondence was handled.
